FRAME 365: Cease Fire
Here we are, at last, at the end. It's been quite a journey, and a lot has happened in the last 365 days. When I first started this project, I had no idea I'd be finishing it from London. The seed of that idea had yet to be planted. It's amazing where life can take you if you're willing to go.
I'm on the fence about whether or not to call this a success. A set of rules were in place from the start: take a picture every day. Post a picture only from that day. No digital trickery.
It all seemed simple enough, and for the first few days, it was. It never occurred to me that it would become so difficult. Part of the problem was my erratic and hectic schedule, and part of the problem was my innate need to make everything perfect all the time. I think it's good to strive for the best you can do, but sometimes that perfection gets in the way. There were many days where I was completely unhappy with the picture I had posted, sometimes embarrassingly so. Rules were broken here and there. If I had to go away on TDY for work, there was no way to post original content, so old photos had to be used. Sometimes I used digital enhancement for certain photos. Sometimes I posted photos not taken on that day. For the most part, though, I stuck to my rules, however they hindered me.
You can't force creativity. That's one of the main lessons I've learned here. Inspiration should come out of the desire to be expressive, not because it's 11:55 at night and you don't have a picture for tomorrow's blog. That leads to shit work, and I don't like shit work.
I'd finally just like to thank everybody who visited this blog all year, and those who commented and encouraged. Your input is always valuable to me, and I enjoy sharing my work with you.
This project is over, but I have started a new photography blog- one without rules or restrictions or numbers. I'll now be free to post whatever I want from whenever I want. I'll be able to share with you only the work that came out of my desire to capture that particular moment in time and preserve it. I hope to still bring content to you on a daily basis, and I hope you'll all come along. Thanks again, and I'll see you over at THE SHOT starting Friday, October 1.
